Feeling excited but slightly apprehensive about the upcoming SkyRun Eryri? You’re not alone. The event is undoubtedly challenging, but with the right mindset and preparation, it is totally achievable.
To support participants in building confidence and gaining essential route experience, we are pleased to offer guided recce runs. As part of the race entry requirements, runners should have prior experience of Grade 1 scrambling or above. This recce day will provide that opportunity through an ascent of Tryfan North Ridge (weather permitting).
These sessions are limited to 12 places and are led by experienced local mountain running guides with extensive personal and professional knowledge of the terrain. Early booking is strongly recommended to avoid disappointment. You can also view highlights from last year’s event on the Sky Run Eryri Facebook gallery.
Meeting Point and Route Overview
We will meet at the Pen-y-Gwryd Hotel (Aid Station 3 during the race) before completing the ‘north loop’ of the official race route. Kat and the guiding team have in-depth familiarity with the course and are happy to answer any questions throughout the day.
Weather permitting, the run will include a descent of the technical Y Gribin ridge, followed by a traverse into the Ogwen Valley. We will then head south to climb the iconic Tryfan North Ridge Grade 1 scramble. The day concludes with an enjoyable trail descent back to the Pen-y-Gwryd Hotel, where participants are welcome to stay for refreshments.
Inclusive and Supportive Environment
Our recce days are designed to be friendly, relaxed, and inclusive, typically attracting a mixed-ability group. For those seeking a more demanding or tailored experience, private guiding options are also available upon request.
We look forward to welcoming you and helping you prepare for SkyRun Eryri alongside fellow sky runners.
